The Pentecostal Theological Seminary announces the twenty-third annual Clarence J. Abbott Lecture in Biblical Studies to be given on February 26, 2025, in Cross Memorial Chapel at the Seminary. The Theme of the lecture, presented by Professor Lee Roy Martin, is ‘The Holy Spirit in the Old Testament: Anticipations of the Fivefold Gospel’. The lecture is open to the public.
Professor Martin is the Clarence J. Abbott Professor of Biblical Studies at the Pentecostal Theological Seminary. He began teaching at the Seminary part-time in 1992 and was appointed as a full-time faculty member in 1998. He also serves as Editor of the Journal of Pentecostal Theology and Old Testament Editor of the Pentecostal Commentary Series. He is a founding co-editor and publisher of CPT Press. He is a member of the translation committee for the Modern English Version of the Bible and for the upcoming New Tyndale Version, and he has published more than forty books and more than one hundred articles and book chapters.
Professor Martin has been a Guest Lecturer or Visiting Lecturer at a variety of educational institutions in Central America, South America, Puerto Rico, Haiti, Romania, Zambia, Philippines, and South Korea. He was recipient of the Pentecostal Scholarship Award from the Church of God Theological Seminary in 2022, and he served as the President of the Society for Pentecostal Studies (2013-2014).
Strongly committed to local church ministry, he serves as an Associate Pastor at Grace Community Church of God in Cleveland. He is married to Karen and they have three children, Stephen, Michael, and Kendra. Stephen and his wife Marilyn have two sons, Caleb and Joshua.
