Justin Harley is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Counseling and Interim Chair of the Master of Arts in Pastoral Counseling at Pentecostal Theological Seminary. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Biblical Studies from Lee University, a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling from Georgia State University, and a PhD. in Counselor Education & Supervision from Regent University.
He received his license as an Associate Professional Counselor in 2003, and has been a fully licensed Professional Counselor in Georgia since 2007. He is also a National Certified Counselor and an Approved Clinical Supervisor with NBCC/CCE Global.
Dr. Harley has 21 years of experience as a mental health professional. For ten years, he served as the Director of Counseling at Trinity Counseling Center, a faith-based mental health clinic which provided over 3500 counseling sessions per year to the church and community. He is also an Ordained Bishop in the Church of God, having been a member of the church since birth. He has 25 years of full-time ministry experience, including being a Music Minister, Youth Pastor, Children’s Pastor, Associate Pastor, and Senior Pastor.
He served as a site supervisor for Richmont University’s CACREP accredited clinical counseling program for 10 years. He has over 15 years of experience as a student, supervisor, and faculty member in CACREP accredited programs. Before joining the ranked faculty at PTS, he served as an Adjunct Professor, teaching a variety of courses in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
He is a member of the American Counseling Association, the Association of Counselor Education & Supervision, and the American Association of Christian Counselors.
His doctoral dissertation was titled “Pentecostal Christian Beliefs Toward the Causes and Treatments of Mental Health Disorders.” His research interests include the integration of faith and spirituality in mental health counseling, providing affordable counseling services to clients, and stress and burnout among helping professionals. He is passionate about training the next generation of ministers to be compassionate and highly effective professional and pastoral counselors.
Dr. Harley has been married to his wife, Jena for 26 years. They have two daughters, Halla and Emma, and one son-in-law, Chris. He has been on about 30 missions trips to various countries, including Jamaica, Navajo Nation, the Philippines, Paraguay, Romania, and the Dominican Republic. In his spare time, he enjoys golfing and watching the Atlanta Braves.
